The history of bread .... in a few mouthfuls:
Egypt: where history's first bakers appeared, the first dome oven was invented and the natural proving process was discovered;
Rome: bread-making was introduced in 168 BC after the defeat of King Perseus of Macedon. The Romans were the first to give baking craft status, introducing major innovations such as water-mills and the use of sweeter white flours;
XVIII Century: the industrial revolution brought new processing methods, as bread started to be made on an industrial scale. The new developments included mixing and refining machines, continuous-cycle gas and electric ovens and new ingredients that gave the flours extra strength, allowing the dough to absorb more water.
